About Me

Professional Background

I'm Graham Wesson, and I've dedicated my career to making accounting accessible and efficient for businesses. Starting as a purchase ledger clerk, I quickly advanced to the role of Finance Director, managing entire finance functions for SMEs with turnovers up to £12 million.

My journey in accounting began in my 30s, driven by a passion for problem-solving and analysis. Achieving my CIMA qualification in just two years, I have honed my skills to deliver precise and reliable financial management.

Since 2020, I have specialised in working with private clients, including sole traders and limited companies, providing comprehensive services like payroll, VAT, Year end accounts, small business tax returns as well as self assessments.

Clients value my ability to tidy up financial messes, implement effective procedures, and explain complex concepts in simple terms.

I am here to provide you with a professional, but personable service.  I am reliable and efficient, and find communication really important with what I do.

Reliable professional accountant offering expert financial advice and bookkeeping services for small businesses in the UK.

From a Personal Perspective

Originally from Nottingham, I'm a devoted Forest fan (happy to talk about football all day!) who has made Cambridgeshire his home. I have two children, aged 11 and 13, who are not afraid to take the micky out of me which I really enjoy.  We like to holiday in Hunstanton where everything is in walking distance, walk into the centre play crazy golf, nip to the café for a drink then back.  Very simple but enjoyable.

I am a passionate cyclist, unfortunately I don't bike as much as I used to, but getting out in the sun, and finding the local hills is my kind of heaven.  I have raced bikes, completed the Fred Whitton twice, and a long with my cousins have cycled from Scarborough to Blackpool in one day - then a half marathon the next day - I didn't fair very well in the half marathon.

Recently I joined the Comberton Squash club, having spent most of my life competing, squash gives me the competition and challenge I need.  I joined the local squash club, and very recently become captain of one of the teams.  Competing in the Cambridge squash league.

I do enjoy the pub, pretty much been brought up in a pub - mum and dad actually left me there when I was a baby, maybe this is where it all stems from and why it feels like home.

As well as my children living in Cambridge, I am starting to build a life for myself here, hence joining a squash club, and now building an accountancy practise.

I still have routes in Nottingham, and my aim is for my practice to cover Cambridge and Nottingham, this gives me the flexibility I need to spend time up there with family and friends, as well as been in Cambridge with family and friends.

I understand finding a new accountant can feel daunting, you can read my testimonials, and one of the common themes is communication, and been responsive.  I believe communication in any relationship is important, been down to earth and approachable is important to me.

What my clients say about working with me

I have owned my own business for 5 years, after 3 years with my previous accountant I decided to look for someone else. I didn't feel we understood each other, and she wasn't very approachable. I came across an advert in our village magazine, GMS Accountant, emailed straight away, and with in minutes I had a reply.

Since then, changing over has been the best decision ever. Graham is very professional, also very understanding. I have contacted him with issues that worried me, he took them over, explained everything, and understood my concerns. The two employees I have also feel comfortable contacting him.

Graham has made my life as a hairdresser/ salon owner a lot less stressful. I am very grateful that he has taken the salon on.

He is easy to contact. Reply right away. Easy to explain your concerns. Always good advice. Looks after my business and employees.

Overall, I feel very lucky to have Graham look after my business, and my staff.

Earlier this year I was looking for some help with my accounting, I came across GMS Business Accountants. I am so glad I decided to work with Graham. Communication is great, all work is turned around quickly and efficiently and he offers a friendly affordable service. Thank you Graham.
